چکیده
The air comparison could use more explanation. I think the authors should comment on how reliable these results are considering that some comparisons are based on measurements of dry air, while some are based on wet air with factory water vapor corrections, which, except for QC-TILDAS, you have shown are not adequate. You mentioned that the water vapor during the third period was < 1% (winter), but I suspect that water vapor was at least as high during the second period (May), yes? Thus, I’m surprised that the dispersion of ICOS-EP/FTIR results shown in Fig. 6 are so tight, considering that the comparison involved ambient (wet) air. From figure 4, we could expect positive bias of up to ∼0.5 ppb as water vapor approaches 2%. Thus, I would expect to see a tail on the negative side of the distributions in Fig. 6 for these instruments. Further, the slopes shown in Table 8 suggest real calibration differences. But these could also be related to water vapor, so how relevant are the slopes shown in Table 8? If you choose to report them, I suggest including an uncertainty and the N2O range measured. Alternatively, it might be better to replace Table 8 with a figure showing mole fraction differences as a function of time, or instrument X vs FTIR as a scatter plot with r-squared shown in each plot.

I’d like to thank the authors for writing this paper. As a designer of such analyzers, I find it a pleasure to see such an excellent independent performance evaluation. I have no additional technical comments to offer beyond what has already been suggested by the other reviewers. I do want to offer one comment related to a statement from anonymous referee #2: "...presents a comprehensive compar...

This paper is a timely assessment of new measurement technology, available for the precise determination of N2O in the atmosphere. Many of the tests presented in the paper follow on from similar tests described in Yver Kwok et al. (2015). The testing procedure is appropriate for the type of measurements being made, unfortunately the tests were obviously carried out at different times and the te...
متن کاملThe variability of methane, nitrous oxide and sulfur hexafluoride in Northeast India*
High-frequency atmospheric measurements of methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) from Darjeeling, India are presented from December 2011 (CH4)/March 2012 (N2O and SF6) through February 2013. These measurements were made on a gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector and electron capture detector, and were calibrated on the Tohoku University, the Scri...
متن کاملNitrous oxide (N2O) isotopic composition in the troposphere: instrumentation, observations at Mace Head, Ireland, and regional modeling
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a significant greenhouse gas and main contributor to stratospheric ozone destruction. Surface measurements of N2O mole fractions have been used to attribute source and sink strengths, but large uncertainties remain. Stable isotopic ratios of N2O (here considered NNO, NNO, NNO, relative to the abundant NNO) linked to source and sink isotopic signatures can provide addition...
